IM language

Users sometimes make use of internet slang or text speaks to shorten common words or expressions in order to quicken conversations or to decrease keystrokes. The language has become universal, with well known expressions such as 'lol' translated in excess of to face to face language.

Emotions are often expressed in shorthand, such as the short form LOL. Some, however, effort to be more precise with emotional expression over IM. Real time reactions such as (chortle) (snort) (guffaw) or (eye-roll) are flattering more popular. Also there are sure standards that are being introduced into normal conversations including, '#' indicates the use of sarcasm in a statement and '*' which indicates a spelling mistake and/or grammatical error in the previous message, followed by a correction.
